I’m a bit late reviewing this comic book. I’ve heard nothing but great things about it and I must say that all of the praise is well-earned. The artwork in this comic book is nothing short of AMAZING. The story is great, and we get some decent cameos as well. This is a definite pick-up for Marvel fans and comic fans alike. When people tell you this one is “SO good!”, believe them. The extra art pages in this Director’s Cut edition make the buy worth it on their own.

The War of the Realms is over. Thor is now the king of Asgard, taking his father Odin’s place. He is growing weary because as king, his fighting days are over and now he has to deal with Asgard from the throne. As he prepares to give his first speech to all of Asgard, Galactus crash-lands on top of his people. Thor prepares to do battle with Galactus, but it turns out that he is injured. Galactus is missing an arm and a horn off his helmet. But he has also brought with him the Star Plague, AKA the Black Winter. He actually came to Thor for help.

Thor summons all of Galactus’ heralds in an attempt to find out just what the Black Winter is. The Silver Surfer explains to Thor that the Black Winter consumes realities just as Galactus consumes worlds. It turns out that their only hope is to somehow make Galactus more powerful so that he can somehow fight it off. Silver Surfer has kept knowledge of existing planets that would help in this task to himself for years.

The plan now is for Thor, Galactus’ heralds, and Thor’s battle company to accompany Galactus to these planets. They will safely evacuate the planets before he consumes them. Galactus explains to Thor and Silver Surfer that the Black Winter takes the form of the end of whoever perceives it. When Galactus saw the Black Winter for the 2nd time, he saw Thor. As he says this, Galactus attacks Thor! I won’t spoil the end for you, though, as you’ve got to read this one yourself.
